This year we've seen the return of Conan to the comic book world brought to us by Marvel comics.
Previously Conan was licensed by Darkhorse and were a truly enjoyable expierience to read, that in mind
i think Marvel is knocking it out of the park with the beginning of this tale!
Spoilers for The new Conan the Barbarian #1 just published this past month! For those who want to read his barbaric tales first seek out your local comic book shop!
So our tale begins with a young conan taking his first breath, and the second page shows a much older sterner King conan. Drawn by Mahmud A. Asrar, the tale then turns to a 20 something year old conan fighting in the arena of a city known as Zamora, decapitating his opponents left and right! He catches the eye of a woman who had just won a handsome ammount of gold betting on him. So of course, they go to bed together that evening. However as the barabarian is about to get it on with this blonde woman... it turns out shes an evil witch! Also it turns out her home an illusion, in its place a terrible dungeon! With numerous undead around Conan as he is chained to an altar!
Proclaiming that the more blood our hero claims the greater the dark magic the witch can use from him, Conan has had enough of her rambiling ways! He grits his teeth and frees himself from the altar! shattering many skeletons on his way. Finding that perfect moment to decapitate the witch and burn down her tower, ending his ordeal. or so you'd think! i'll leave the rest for you guys to go out and read. It really made my week to read this book! Jason Aaron is a rad comic writer who has brought me many comics that I love. I first read a Wolverine comic of his where the concept of shooting ol Logan full of cancer bullets might slow him down enough to take him out (See Wolverine: Weapon X #3 from 2009 for that super rad tale!), and I’ve been in love with his writing ever since!
As of the writing of this post, Conan the Barbarian #2 was just released, and Marvel plans on releasing two more series! Savage Sword of Conan and Age of Conan: Belit! So you should have plenty of barbaric cimmerian comic tales headed your way this year!!!
